Absolutely beautiful.
I have never been more blessed by a wedding ceremony.
I have always been adamant about using the traditional vows at my wedding, but for the first time, after hearing the vows that these two wrote for each other, I was reminded of the power of personal words and how meaningful they can be. Especially when it comes to totally and completely making God the center of their love story and their future together.
His vows:
“I love you. I love with a fierce and unshakeable love that will make any of these words seem superficial and inadequate. But I ask you to let my life communicate the truths that these vows will suffer to say. I want to commit to you to never lose sight of my Savior Jesus. I will not compromise my time, or my energy or passion or placing anything ahead of knowing God more fully. I can be a safe place of comfort and stability in storms of uncertainty because I can promise to never abandon my safe place, in the cleft of the Rock of Ages. I will work in all seasons and all conditions til my fingers gnarl with calluses so that I can build you a home and keep us fed inside of it, but that work will never take the place of play, which will remain at the top of my list of things to do with you. I won’t ever excel the sparkle of our youth to the robber of the age it isn’t. I don’t need you. I hope you see strength in that statement. I need Christ and Him alone. He is my sustenance, and my portion and my provider, and my father and my friend, but I choose you because God loved me, I have a choice and because he gave me His wisdom, I chose absolutely flawlessly. I am imperfect, but I am committed to the process of learning to be a better husband by God’s spirit.”
Her vows:
“Today is the day I have waited for my entire life, and I want to thank you for pursuing the heart of God in order to find me. You’re worth the wait. Today I commit to live a full and rich life with you. Full in adventure and rich in love, trusting the Lord for everything we could ever need or more. I commit to build with you a marriage and a legacy for our children, piece-by-piece, brick by brick, day by day, year by year, loving the moment, hoping for the future, trusting for the present, and living for the Kingdom. Amen.”
Watch this and be blessed by a couple’s desire to give God all the glory with the lives that they so clearly understand have been gifted to them.
